Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction said that it had won a mega project to construct power plants worth US$ 1 billion in India.
They signed a contract for a project to build the Raipur-Chhattisgarh coal-powered thermal power plant in Bangalore, India. The event was attended by B.V.N. Rao, Chairman of its developer, GMR Energy, and Dong Soo Suh, Vice President of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, among others.
The Raipur-Chhattisgarh plant with power generation capacity of 1,370MW will be constructed in the Raipur region, the state of Chhattisgarh in central India. The plant, which is slated for completion in the second half of 2013, will supply power to central India, which suffers from a shortage of electricity supply. The company will conduct the project in a package deal through an Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) method, in which it will take charge of the entire process ranging from the design of main equipment, including boilers and turbine power generators, to their production, and installation, as well as test operation of these and other equipment.
Dong Soo Suh, Vice President of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, said, “The project is the first case wherein we will supply the main assembly in entirety, including turbine power generators, and is different from our earlier projects, for which we only supplied boilers.” Suh added, “By supplying the main equipment produced with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction’s technology on its own, we will construct the plant as a landmark power station of India.’
